Keep those questions coming

The President was asked this weekend about the many newly scrutinized comments made by Jonathan Gruber about the process of passing Obamacare.  This provided yet another opportunity to show utter contempt for Americans’ intelligence, in an attempt to spin and damage control:

During a press conference at the G20 summit in Brisbane, Australia, Obama said Gruber was “some adviser who never worked on our staff.”

Mmm-hmm.  An ‘adviser’ who raked in substantial amounts of money (all from those “stupid” taxpayers, at both the Federal AND multiple state levels!), had access to the White House, and was featured prominently in one of the President’s 2012 reelection ads! *

Perhaps it’s technically true that as a highly (over)paid consultant, Gruber wasn’t “on the staff.”  That’s not the point, and the President knows it.

The point is there are now a half-dozen videos (or more) that show how our elites thought, as they rammed this Frankenstein monster down America’s throat.  Those videos, plus the additional prevaricating by Pelosi, et al, since they surfaced, are quite the education for the electorate.  The ability to compare what “they” were saying years ago to what “they” are saying now makes for a great compare/contrast.  Unlike the laughing stock our White-Housebroken corporate media have become, the Internet is a powerful tool for anyone who wants to be informed.

Which is why our politicians keep trying to find ways to assert government controls over it.  It’s part and parcel of their never-ending quest for more control over us.

* That ad reinforces also another common theme on this blog: that there is little substantive difference between the GOP and the Democrats.  Gruber first advised Mitt Romney as the latter rolled out a state healthcare plan in Massachusetts that would be the predecessor to the Federal monstrosity known as Obamacare.  Whether it’s G.W. Bush adding a “prescription drug plan” to Medicare, or the Democrats using pure partisan muscle to push the country toward single-payer (Federalized) medicine, both parties produce the same result: more government involvement in your life!
