Staring at the Sun

Off on a daytrip to see the eclipse today.  Such events are a timely reminder that our petty human squabbles pale into insignificance before the splendor of His creation. Today’s spectacle is only possible because the moon and the sun both take up half a degree of arc in the Earth’s sky — all three celestial objects: sun, moon and Earth, are in perfect alignment and distances to provide these spectacles.
