This is multiculturalism

It amazes me that many of the loudest voices for ‘women’s rights’ are also thrilled to be welcoming in tens of thousands of refugees invaders for whom cutting up a little girl’s privates is a common practice:

Opposition from some members of Minnesota’s immigrant and refugee communities is slowing the momentum of a bill that would impose stiff penalties for parents involved in cases of female genital mutilation.

Since the bill’s near-unanimous passage in the Minnesota House this week, some longtime critics of the ritual have met with senators, lobbied the governor’s office and handed out fliers — all to raise alarm about the legislation…

Now, the author of the Senate version is voicing second thoughts about approving the legislation yet this session, though Senate GOP leadership have not committed to a course of action. “We all agree this practice is absolutely horrible, and something needs to be done,” said the author, Sen. Karin Housley. “How can we empower communities to address this practice from within rather than having Big Brother come down and say, ‘This is wrong?’ ”

Short answer: you can’t.  Which is why different communities with different values need to live in different areas.  Female genital mutilation is a common practice in the Muslim world (especially in Somalia, where many of the new ‘migrants’ to Minnesota are coming from), and no amount of “empowering” of the community is likely to change that.  Since values are so difficult to change, you’re left with changing external behavior — and thus the need for Big Brother.  Don’t think for a moment our nation’s elites aren’t aware of that.  How better to grow government than as the arbiter of incompatible cultures?

The fact there is newsworthy opposition to this bill (which normally would be a shoe-in under the “it’s for the children” and “grrrrl power” rules of politics) shows how much alien influence already exists in our land.  Does anyone think it gets better from here?

We open our doors to anyone who wants in, but refuse to insist that “when in America, one follows traditional American values.”  (Of course, the retort to that is “who defines traditional American values,” to which I simply say “those who know their history better than their Alinsky.”)

Close.  The.  Borders.  Now.

Deport.  The.  Invaders.  NOW.

And imprison or deport their domestic enablers.

Leaders literally with no future

As we celebrate motherhood today, there is a significant trend worth noting.  We often hear “think of the children” when an unpopular or unwise piece of legislation is being proposed.  And yet, few of our leaders have “skin in the game” when it comes to their nation’s future:

Emmanuel Macron founded a new party, and his election as France’s president is said to herald the “revival of Europe.” Interestingly, Macron has no children.

This is not that notable in itself. After all, George Washington had no biological children. But across the continent Macron wants to bind closer together, there’s a stark pattern:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel also has no children. British prime minister Theresa May has no children. Italian prime minister Paolo Gentiloni has no children. Holland’s Mark Rutte has no children. Sweden’s Stefan Loumlfven has no biological children. Luxembourg’s Xavier Bettel has no children. Scotland’s Nicola Sturgeon has no children. Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission, has no children.

This is too remarkable to ignore. While Macron is young—39 years old—the rest of Europe is being governed by childless Baby Boomers

It’s clear which side has political power now. But the demographics point to a different future. In 2009 Phillip Longman noted that in France (for example) a tiny minority of women are giving birth to over 50% of the children every year. These women are either practicing Catholics or immigrant Muslims.

Contemporary childless leaders, however ascendant they feel today, may be the last gasp of secularism. The future is won by those who show up, and only the religiously orthodox are having children.

Those still swimming in the ancient streams of Faith and Culture in France will have the observant offspring of two rival religions living within the borders of one nation. The second Battle of Tours, (or Vienna, or Lepanto) might be extra bloody due to the policies of today, but the authors of those policies will not be around because they will be dead, and their offspring will not be around, because they do not exist.

Surely Macron, Merkel, Juncker, and the rest would argue that they can do their crucial jobs better because they don’t have children to distract them. C.S. Lewis provides the rebuttal: “Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are the most important work.”

The elite have long been insulated from the effects of their piously pie-in-the-sky policies by doing such things as living in gated communities and sending their children to high-priced private schools.  As this article points out, they have even less reason today to worry about the effects of their futile utopianism.  This is probably a key reason why our leadership seems so out of touch with the people they allegedly lead, especially in the area of immigration.  It won’t be their children suffering from the resurgence of long-controlled diseases like measles and whooping cough.  It won’t be their children who will either have to fight or conform to alien ideologies that were allowed in through millions of adherents’ migration.   It won’t be their children who face falling wages due to competition from cheaper labor overseas and immigrant labor at home.  They can afford to wear utopian blinders in a way no parent can.

While I’ve excerpted a good bit, read the entire piece for yourself here.

Priorities

joker Planned Parenthood

Not content with trying to intimidate news outlets into refusing to show the videos of what really goes on in the abortion industry, Planned Parenthood successfully got a judge to issue a restraining order to prevent the Center for Medical Progress from releasing any more of the nine videos yet to be put out.

Meanwhile, people around the world are up in arms over the death of a lion, which is providing a convenient distraction to the recent Planned Parenthood revelations.  No matter how much you might disagree with the idea of trophy hunting, the proportion of outrage on these issues seems highly misplaced.

As for the restraining order, despite the clear infringement of freedom of speech it’s to be expected: “For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.”  John 3:20

I hope all this does is keep the issue front and center for even longer, so that more people become aware of just what this “industry” does.

Are you OK with your tax dollars funding chop shops for baby parts?  Have you called your Congressional representatives yet?  You have a voice — no matter what the legal system may say.

Planned Profiteering

That would be a more accurate name for “Planned Parenthood,” whose ‘services’ are nothing about fostering actual parenthood.

The evils of chattel slavery went on for many decades in this country because people refused to see the slaves as fellow human beings caught up in a system that required their dehumanization.  The publication of Uncle Tom’s Cabin pricked the conscience of many people who had previously looked away.

Let’s all pray that the series of videos being released by the Center for Medical Progress finally has the same effect regarding the abortion industry.  The video I’m embedding below is the latest release, in which we see technicians picking apart an 11-week baby that has been killed before it could ever draw breath, in order to assess the market value of the child’s parts.  It is hard to watch.  And note the technician they interview — how she admits to passing out the first time she observed this process, only to be told “oh, you’re new.  It still happens to some of us.”

Our conscience will warn us of evil… until we have hit the “override” switch too many times, and can no longer recognize it for what it is.

“Thus says the Lord of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.”  But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears that they might not hear.  They made their hearts diamond-hard lest they should hear the law and the words that the Lord of hosts had sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Therefore great anger came from the Lord of hosts. As I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations that they had not known. Thus the land they left was desolate, so that no one went to and fro, and the pleasant land was made desolate.”   Zechariah 7:9-14

We have tolerated evil in many forms too long in our land, and we fool ourselves if we think God’s justice will be withheld forever.  Don’t just watch the video below.  Share it widely.

I’ve called my Senators and Representative — and so should you.  (I was pleased to see that two of the three phone lines were jammed, and the person I spoke to in both cases indicated they were receiving plenty of calls today about this.)  The first duty of any government is to protect life — particularly that of the most vulnerable among us.  I requested of my Congress that not one more of my tax dollars go toward the funding of this ghoulish organization.  And since the Senate appears to have time to hold hearings on issues that aren’t properly a matter of Congressional concern, I suggested that this is more worthy of their time and attention.

Finally, pray for those who are producing this series.  Hell hath no fury like evil exposed, and the response to this act of truth telling is likely to be a storm for those involved.  May they stand firm in the Armor of God.  And may God forgive our nation and heal our land, blessing it with repentance.

For the children

I note here occasionally that many of the statists’ proposals are put forward soothingly, under the guise of how their increasingly totalitarian schemes are “for the children.”  What’s overlooked is that one of their favorite targets — the Christian faith — has done more for the betterment of childhood (not to mention adulthood) than their various machinations ever could:

We have forgotten just how deep a cultural revolution Christianity wrought. In fact, we forget about it precisely because of how deep it was: There are many ideas that we simply take for granted as natural and obvious, when in fact they didn’t exist until the arrival of Christianity changed things completely. Take, for instance, the idea of children.

Today, it is simply taken for granted that the innocence and vulnerability of children makes them beings of particular value, and entitled to particular care. We also romanticize children — their beauty, their joy, their liveliness. Our culture encourages us to let ourselves fall prey to our gooey feelings whenever we look at baby pictures. What could be more natural?

In fact, this view of children is a historical oddity. If you disagree, just go back to the view of children that prevailed in Europe’s ancient pagan world.

As the historian O.M. Bakke points out in his invaluable book When Children Became People, in ancient Greece and Rome, children were considered nonpersons.

Back then, the entire social worldview was undergirded by a universally-held, if implicit, view: Society was organized in concentric circles, with the circle at the center containing the highest value people, and the people in the outside circles having little-to-no value…

…Christianity’s invention of children — that is, its invention of the cultural idea of children as treasured human beings — was really an outgrowth of its most stupendous and revolutionary idea: the radical equality, and the infinite value, of every single human being as a beloved child of God. If the God who made heaven and Earth chose to reveal himself, not as an emperor, but as a slave punished on the cross, then no one could claim higher dignity than anyone else on the basis of earthly status.

That was indeed a revolutionary idea, and it changed our culture so much that we no longer even recognize it.

The entire piece at the link is worth considering.  I suspect that as every vestige of a Christian worldview continues to be driven from the public square, more people will come to realize what ends up being jettisoned with it.

Doing the jobs parents won’t do

This is truly Orwellian:

The National Science Foundation has committed $10 million to build robots that will act as “personal trainers” for children, in an effort to influence their behavior and eating habits.

The project will develop a “new breed of sophisticated ‘socially assistive’ robots,” designed to help children “learn to read, appreciate physical fitness, overcome cognitive disabilities, and perform physical exercises,” according to a news release by Yale University when the grant was first announced in 2012.

“Just like a good personal trainer, we want the robots to be able to guide the child toward a behavior that we desire,” said Brian Scassellati, a computer science professor at Yale and principal investigator for the study.

“What we want to do is move these robots out of the laboratory and into schools and homes and clinics, places where we can directly help children on a day-to-day basis,” he said.

The NSF grant said the project is necessary due to “critical societal problems.”

“The need for this technology is driven by critical societal problems that require sustained, personalized support that supplements the efforts of educators, parents, and clinicians,” the grant said.

Scassellati envisions the robots influencing nearly every aspect of children’s lives.

The ‘personal trainers’ children need are their parents.  And it’s a sad commentary that so few are doing the job that engineers are getting involved.  And make no mistake: this is an engineering project.   This isn’t just about getting kids to eat their veggies.  It’s about providing them with a constant companion that will program the little minds with whatever it’s been programmed to spout.  Imagine a mechanical ‘coach’ reciting the secular left’s many mantras night and day at its human charge, and you can see the potential.

Ultimately, though, no mechanical device can provide children with what they need most: love.

Scores of studies show that many of the ‘critical societal problems’ we face today are rooted in the breakdown of the traditional family, which every corner of our society seems literally hell-bent on destroying.  The family is God-designed and ordained out of His wisdom.  If our leaders were truly serious about aiding effective childhood development, they’d seek to contribute to the restoration of that social fabric.  Since the family is a competing source of authority, though, that will never happen.  The nature of the State is not to rest until all other sources of power and cohesion–church, family, community — are brought to heel.

Just remember as these autocratic automatons are rolled out: “it’s for the children.”

The ‘war on drugs’ must end… for the children…

We’re told so many policies must be enacted, no matter how antithetical to liberty, because “it’s for the children.”

Well then, take a good look at this picture.

Bounkham Phonesavanh

This 19-month old has an estimated 50 percent chance of survival after a SWAT invasion of the house in which he was sleeping resulted in a ‘flash-bang’ grenade being thrown into his crib.  The police are saying “we had no way of knowing there was a child in the house.”  That’s because the child and his family–including three older sisters–don’t normally live there.  They were staying with relatives temporarily after their own house suffered a fire!

The raid was ordered after a ‘confidential informant’ (most likely someone already in trouble with the law, whose cooperation may or may not be on the up-and-up) allegedly bought drugs at the residence.  The target of the warrant–the actual owner of the home–wasn’t even present when the raid took place!  He was successfully arrested elsewhere.

That last fact should cause every American to scream for change.  There are many options to deal with and detain suspected criminals.  Why has the 3 am raid, complete with military operations out of Apocalypse Now, become the standard?  Why do we tolerate results like the photo above as some sort of acceptable “collateral damage” when they don’t even result in a successful capture of the operation’s target?  If legal authority is going to conduct a military operation against an American residence, shouldn’t they at least be expected to have ample–and current–intelligence regarding who may or may not be present when the door is broken in?

Or is all of this just OK because it happens more often than not to minorities and the poor?  Where are all the folks who cry out about disparities in racial outcomes when it pertains to law enforcement using legally sanctioned home invasions?  Or is the racial and economic narrative only useful when it increases the power of the State?  (That was a rhetorical question — the answer is readily apparent.)

I am not a drug user and I teach my children to avoid them as well, and why.  I grew up believing in the correctness of vigorously pursuing the ‘war’ on illegal narcotics — a ‘war’ now in its fourth decade.  But now I’m convinced our nation’s approach to this issue is fundamentally flawed and extremely dangerous.  What have been the results?  Massive incarceration rates (and the attendant costs) for petty dealers and users.  The deaths of both law enforcement officers and innocent civilians in raids like this one.  Abuse of the innocent through civil forfeiture laws and a general erosion and loss of our Constitutional protections.

But what is more damaging to our nation and its future: the dime bag dealer on the corner, or the well-connected financial fraudster?  The pot grower or the Ponzi schemer?  The gang-banger or his banker?  Where are the thousands of SWAT raids, flash bang grenades and handcuffs when it comes to misconduct by the “too big to fail” corporations or the wealthy elite that are the real rulers–and ruiners–of the land today?  If we’re going to use military force, shouldn’t it be against the existential threats?

In short, why did banks merely write small checks when caught undermining the integrity of the nation’s property title system via “robosigining,” but the innocent child above is fighting for his life in a hospital?

America, it is long past time to reexamine your priorities and what you demand from your justice system.  After all… it’s “for the children!”
