No more excuses

Less than a year and a half ago, the entire Republican membership of Congress voted to send a bill to President Obama that would have repealed Obamacare.

But that was just for consumption by the rubes back in their home districts.  Clearly, the president wasn’t about to agree to dismantling his namesake health care takeover plan.

That the Republican party isn’t truly serious about seeking smaller government should be apparent to everyone.  They control both houses of Congress, and work with a President who committed himself to getting rid of the misnamed “Affordable Care Act.”

So why won’t they send the same bill to the new occupant of the Oval Office?

Because they know he’d sign it.  Then they’re not just posturing for the constituents, they’re actually removing an ill-conceived government program riddled equally with incompetence and opportunities for political theft and graft.

This is why I stopped identifying as “Republican” close to a dozen years ago.

It’s time to call their bluff.  Everyone who believes the Supreme Court was insane to rule this health care law constitutional, everyone who wants to see health care costs fall instead of rise, everyone who believes the free market, not the bureaucrats best meets our individual needs, simply MUST contact their representatives and demand they resubmit the previous bill.

No more stalling while “a draft” is written.  There’s no need to reinvent the wheel.

Paul Ryan – your membership in the Deep State is showing.  You best realize the election of Trump was a symptom of patience becoming exhausted.

Congress is acting in direct opposition to the mandate expressed in November’s election. So here’s the deal, Congress:

Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way.

Casting off Castro

Fidel Castro has died.  It’s informative to compare the statements made by our current president, versus our future president on this event:

Trump: “Today, the world marks the passing of a brutal dictator who oppressed his own people for nearly six decades.  Fidel Castro’s legacy is one of firing squads, theft, unimaginable suffering, poverty and the denial of fundamental human rights.

While Cuba remains a totalitarian island, it is my hope that today marks a move away from the horrors endured for too long, and toward a future in which the wonderful Cuban people finally live in the freedom they so richly deserve.

Though the tragedies, deaths and pain caused by Fidel Castro cannnot be erased, our administration will do all it can to ensure the Cuban people can finally begin their journey toward prosperity and liberty.  I join the many Cuban Americans who supported me so greatly in the presidential campaign, including the Brigade 2506 Veterans Association that endorsed me, with the hope of one day seeing a free Cuba.”

That is how you mark the passing of a totalitarian thug.  I truly hope that this message about Castro’s real legacy burrows in until there’s no more chic in Che shirts.

If Trump can be on message consistently like this during his administration, foreign policy is going to be interesting to watch.  Maybe our nation will stop being taken in so easily.

Planned Profiteering

That would be a more accurate name for “Planned Parenthood,” whose ‘services’ are nothing about fostering actual parenthood.

The evils of chattel slavery went on for many decades in this country because people refused to see the slaves as fellow human beings caught up in a system that required their dehumanization.  The publication of Uncle Tom’s Cabin pricked the conscience of many people who had previously looked away.

Let’s all pray that the series of videos being released by the Center for Medical Progress finally has the same effect regarding the abortion industry.  The video I’m embedding below is the latest release, in which we see technicians picking apart an 11-week baby that has been killed before it could ever draw breath, in order to assess the market value of the child’s parts.  It is hard to watch.  And note the technician they interview — how she admits to passing out the first time she observed this process, only to be told “oh, you’re new.  It still happens to some of us.”

Our conscience will warn us of evil… until we have hit the “override” switch too many times, and can no longer recognize it for what it is.

“Thus says the Lord of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.”  But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears that they might not hear.  They made their hearts diamond-hard lest they should hear the law and the words that the Lord of hosts had sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Therefore great anger came from the Lord of hosts. As I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations that they had not known. Thus the land they left was desolate, so that no one went to and fro, and the pleasant land was made desolate.”   Zechariah 7:9-14

We have tolerated evil in many forms too long in our land, and we fool ourselves if we think God’s justice will be withheld forever.  Don’t just watch the video below.  Share it widely.

I’ve called my Senators and Representative — and so should you.  (I was pleased to see that two of the three phone lines were jammed, and the person I spoke to in both cases indicated they were receiving plenty of calls today about this.)  The first duty of any government is to protect life — particularly that of the most vulnerable among us.  I requested of my Congress that not one more of my tax dollars go toward the funding of this ghoulish organization.  And since the Senate appears to have time to hold hearings on issues that aren’t properly a matter of Congressional concern, I suggested that this is more worthy of their time and attention.

Finally, pray for those who are producing this series.  Hell hath no fury like evil exposed, and the response to this act of truth telling is likely to be a storm for those involved.  May they stand firm in the Armor of God.  And may God forgive our nation and heal our land, blessing it with repentance.

Government giveth, government taketh away

As if the annual fleecing process known as filing your taxes wasn’t already opaque, painful, and a ridiculous exercise in government control:

Half of the households that received subsidies to help pay health insurance premiums last year under the Affordable Care Act will probably have to repay some of that money to the federal government, according to a new analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

If the Supreme Court ever wanted to earn back some respect from the productive, independent-minded part of the electorate, they would finally kill this Obamanation once and for all during the current term.  It’s bad policy, badly written law, and a prime example of government arrogance run amok these days.

And never forget: even the architects of it admit it only passed because of a lack of transparency and “the stupidity of the American people!”

When government finds churches useful

Short answer: only when it furthers their agenda of expanding power:

In an effort to sign up as many consumers as possible for insurance under the Affordable Care Act (or Obamacare), the Obama administration has gone to extraordinary lengths to partner with churches and other faith-based groups, even publishing sample church bulletin inserts, flyers, and scripts for announcements, as well as “talking points.” These materials are part of the “Second Sunday & Faith Weekend of Action Toolkit,” which is available on the website of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Apparently a number of “faith-based” leaders have gotten aboard with this initiative (5,500 if HHS’s figures can be believed).  If there are that many congregations worried about health care, why hasn’t a charitable Christian alternative to Obamacare taken off?  Rather than spend the effort and time to promote the Usurper’s agenda, why not create a solution of our own?

It’s enough to make me realize that when it comes time to take the “mark of the Beast,” whatever that turns out to be, there’ll be plenty of congregations open to help, complete with the national flag up front, and probably playing the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” in the background…

Second-class residents

The efforts of our rulers to “elect a new people” continue apace.  It’s bad enough that King Obama, by his own admission, unconstitutionally ‘changed the law’ to allow millions of lawbreaking border jumpers to remain in the U.S.   These denizens will now compete with Americans in what is already an historically poor job market.

And guess what?  Thanks to King Obama’s other signature project (Obamacare), these housecrashers have an advantage(!) in that competition:

Under the president’s new amnesty, businesses will have a $3,000-per-employee incentive to hire illegal immigrants over native-born workers because of a quirk of Obamacare.

President Obama’s temporary amnesty, which lasts three years, declares up to 5 million illegal immigrants to be lawfully in the country and eligible for work permits, but it still deems them ineligible for public benefits such as buying insurance on Obamacare’s health exchanges.

Under the Affordable Care Act, that means businesses who hire them won’t have to pay a penalty for not providing them health coverage — making them $3,000 more attractive than a similar native-born worker, whom the business by law would have to cover.

If the so-called ‘social justice warriors’ fanning the flames over the Ferguson verdict want a REAL, CLEAR injustice to protest, here it is.  Guess who stands to lose most under this toxic combination of executive fiat?  Those barely clinging to the lower end of the employment ladder, that’s who.  All the unemployed residents of Ferguson and countless other towns across America who WOULD like to work and break out of the welfare trap (or who now have to find other work because their employer was just burned out by idiots chanting incoherent slogans about “justice”) just had another huge obstacle put in their way.

Think Washington D.C. Mordor cares?  Hardly.  As the Instapundit likes to quip, “they’ll turn us all into beggars, ‘cuz they’re easier to please.”  This constant official support for importing ever-larger numbers of cheap laborers — beginning with the 1965 Immigration Act — is why U.S. wages have remained stagnant or declined for four decades, and is one of the major contributors to the income inequality that is now so often decried.

Actions have consequences.  Effectively open borders–both to immigration and so-called “free trade”–have economic effects.  The Law of Supply and Demand is not a ‘suggestion’ — the more labor is available, the cheaper it will be (hence declining wages).  Ross Perot once famously warned of the “giant sucking sound” that NAFTA and similar agreements would produce as jobs went overseas.  And now what jobs are left in the U.S. are being sought after by increasingly impoverished Americans competing with new arrivals aided and abetted by the King of the United States.  What does it matter to be a citizen if your own government’s actions perpetually put you at a disadvantage?

No wonder so many people are seeking to leave the Titanic permanently.  When you decide your government has “become destructive of these ends (life, liberty, pursuit of happiness),” you face a choice: work with others to “alter or abolish it,” or get the heck out of Dodge.  Most Americans show little sign of understanding what the real roots of the problem are, much less what is needed to address them.  Hence, the search for the exits by many who do.  If you’re going to be a second-class resident, you might as well try a new country instead of being abused in what used to be your own.

Keep those questions coming

The President was asked this weekend about the many newly scrutinized comments made by Jonathan Gruber about the process of passing Obamacare.  This provided yet another opportunity to show utter contempt for Americans’ intelligence, in an attempt to spin and damage control:

During a press conference at the G20 summit in Brisbane, Australia, Obama said Gruber was “some adviser who never worked on our staff.”

Mmm-hmm.  An ‘adviser’ who raked in substantial amounts of money (all from those “stupid” taxpayers, at both the Federal AND multiple state levels!), had access to the White House, and was featured prominently in one of the President’s 2012 reelection ads! *

Perhaps it’s technically true that as a highly (over)paid consultant, Gruber wasn’t “on the staff.”  That’s not the point, and the President knows it.

The point is there are now a half-dozen videos (or more) that show how our elites thought, as they rammed this Frankenstein monster down America’s throat.  Those videos, plus the additional prevaricating by Pelosi, et al, since they surfaced, are quite the education for the electorate.  The ability to compare what “they” were saying years ago to what “they” are saying now makes for a great compare/contrast.  Unlike the laughing stock our White-Housebroken corporate media have become, the Internet is a powerful tool for anyone who wants to be informed.

Which is why our politicians keep trying to find ways to assert government controls over it.  It’s part and parcel of their never-ending quest for more control over us.

* That ad reinforces also another common theme on this blog: that there is little substantive difference between the GOP and the Democrats.  Gruber first advised Mitt Romney as the latter rolled out a state healthcare plan in Massachusetts that would be the predecessor to the Federal monstrosity known as Obamacare.  Whether it’s G.W. Bush adding a “prescription drug plan” to Medicare, or the Democrats using pure partisan muscle to push the country toward single-payer (Federalized) medicine, both parties produce the same result: more government involvement in your life!
